Our Journey
Our journey commenced with a simple idea - can we produce energy from the mountains of waste created by modern society - the resounding answer was yes, using technology. We then set about bringing the brightest scientific minds together with the best skilled and creative engineers to deliver on our vision.

Ron Read, Co-Founder, Managing Director
Talented in putting together high-performance teams and nurturing stakeholder relationships, Ron’s passion for social and environmental responsibility is the primary driving force in co-founding and managing Material Energy. He has over 30 years of experience in leading projects to optimise processes related to asset, financial and performance management within the technology industry.
John Parsons, Co-Founder, General Manager of Operations
Having more than 35 years of experience in the coal mining industry, within the rehabilitation of mine sites, construction and management of waste coal reclamation plants and the divestment of mine waste for commercial use, John takes our vision and turns it into reality overall operational aspects. His expertise was instrumental in the implementation and development of innovative technologies that resulted in a reduced volume of mine waste and improved reclamation of coal from mine waste, leading to more economical and time-efficient rehabilitation of mines and waste tailing dams.
Richard Gregory, Co-Founder, Chief Technology Officer
Richard creates end-to-end business management and transformation through technology. Specialising in project management and information technology architecture, he has a combined 30 years of experience delivering complex IT process efficiency solutions to finance, government and utility industries in Australia and New Zealand.
